FAQs

Are online banks safe?

At SoFi, information security is our top priority. We offer SSL encryption, fraud protection, and FDIC insurance up to $3M (8x the national standard) when you enroll in the SoFi Insured Deposits Program. Plus, biometric login and two-factor authentication provide additional security.

What is financial fraud?

Financial fraud occurs when someone accesses or uses your personal or banking information without permission, often to make unauthorized transactions. It can involve stolen credentials, fake messages, or deceptive schemes designed to trick you into sharing sensitive data..

What is two-factor authentication (2FA)?

2FA is an increasingly common security measure to help keep sensitive data secure. When you log in to an account, you need to provide two pieces of unique information, such as:

• Your password or security questions
• A passcode sent to your email address or phone
• Your fingerprint or face for identification

We take banking security seriously, which is why we have 2FA in place for all SoFi Checking and Savings accounts.

What is the benefit of using two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Two-factor authentication makes your account significantly harder for someone else to access, even if they have your password. It adds an additional verification step that strengthens your overall account security and helps protect your personal information from fraud.

What is biometric login?

Biometric login is when you use a physical feature—typically either your fingerprint or face—to log in to your account. With SoFi Checking and Savings, you can use your fingerprint or face to verify your identity when logging in to your account.

Does SoFi offer identity theft protection?

SoFi provides a range of security features that help safeguard your identity, including device verification, biometric login, and real-time fraud monitoring. While SoFi does not offer standalone identity theft insurance, these tools help reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

How can I freeze my SoFi debit card if it’s lost or stolen?

You can instantly freeze your SoFi debit card in the SoFi app to stop new transactions from going through. If you find your card later, you can unfreeze it just as quickly.

Does SoFi offer zero-liability protection on my debit card?

Yes. With the World Debit Mastercard, you’re protected from unauthorized transactions online, in-store, by phone, and at ATMs, giving you added confidence when managing your account.

How do I contact SoFi’s fraud department?

If you’re concerned about any suspicious activity on your SoFi bank account, contact us at 855-456-7634 (and then choose option 8 ). We’re here to help.

Is SoFi insured by the FDIC?

Yes. All SoFi Checking and Savings accounts are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per member (joint accounts are insured up to $500,000).  In addition, FDIC insurance of up to $3M is available by enrolling in the SoFi Insured Deposits Program at no cost.1

As more of our financial lives go online and are stored in clouds, we may tend to dismiss the possibility that natural disasters can wreak havoc on our financial records.

In this post, we suggest ways to consider how to protect your finances and investments from the physical damage caused by forces of nature. Just like your overall survival plan, protecting your money and financial records takes preparation.
