Doordash to Deliver for Facebook Marketplace

Local Delivery, Limited Selection

Meta’s (META) Facebook Marketplace is partnering with DoorDash (DASH) to deliver purchases. The Marketplace notably allows consumers to sell to one another.

The service offers pickup and delivery within a 15-mile radius for items that can fit in a car’s trunk. It has already been piloted in several cities. Deliveries must be completed within a 48-hour window.

The new arrangement marks the first time DoorDash, known for its online food ordering, will move products between consumers. It has previously made forays into delivering other items like toothpaste and Tylenol.

Youth Outreach

The partnership is at least somewhat motivated by Meta’s desire to gain traction with younger Americans who like the Marketplace but otherwise prefer TikTok’s platform over Facebook. The move also reflects the technology giant’s initiative to build out its ecommerce offerings in a bid to help boost ad revenue. The company has sought a strategic shift following Apple’s (AAPL) 2021 revised privacy policy that reduced the perceived value of advertising on Facebook.

Doordash is motivated by the opportunity to further expand beyond just food delivery, thereby both growing its customer base and providing its drivers with more work.

More Products Faster

As delivery companies compete, consumers may see more products to choose from and speedier delivery times. Partnerships such as the one between Facebook and Doordash also offer shoppers efficiency and convenience that may well further brand loyalty.

Doordash has teamed up with retailers Sephora and JCPenney in similar pursuits. It seems company integrations and logistics are becoming vital – and customers are in the catbird seat, positioned to get the products they want faster and with less hassle.
