US stocks finished lower on Wednesday

•   Major stock indexes retraced some of the prior session’s rebound as the market remained volatile amid disappointing earnings from major companies like Airbnb, Disney, Ozempic-maker Novo Nordisk, and chipmaker Super Micro Computer.

•   The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield returned to 3.94%, the level it sat at prior to Friday’s jobs data.

•   The 30-year mortgage rate fell to 6.55% last week, the lowest level since May 2023.

What to be on the lookout for today

•   The weekly update to jobless claims, which has taken on renewed importance given concerns that the unemployment rate is rising too quickly.

•   In earnings, Eli Lilly, Krispy Kreme, Paramount, Burger King-parent Restaurant Brands, Six Flags, and Under Armour will report.

Here’s how to read the market action of the past days that serves a reminder why portfolios should remain diversified.
