The Week in Review

•   US stocks climbed early this week as investors continued to analyze news about the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and tried to understand how it may impact the global economy. Pfizer (PFE) and BioNTech (BNTX) shared results from preliminary lab tests showing that three doses of their COVID-19 shot are effective against the new strain.

•   US stocks fell later in the week. A number of European governments implemented more significant restrictions to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 while booster vaccines are being administered. For example, the UK has issued a work-from-home mandate and is requiring masks in more settings.

•   After climbing earlier in the week, US crude oil futures dropped by 1.5% to $71.28 per barrel. Similarly, cryptocurrency prices sank after rallying at the beginning of the week.

•   Investor sentiment got a boost after weekly jobless claims totaled 184,000 which was better than economists’ forecasts. This marks the lowest level for the metric since 1969.

Benefits of Estate Planning: What You Need to Know

Many younger people assume that estate planning is only for the old and the rich, but estate planning can be addressed at any time and in any tax bracket.

In fact, estate planning is not only about passing on your assets when you die, but it includes what directions you would want to provide to loved ones, or who would take care of your children if you are a parent.

Even more important, estate planning is a way to start thinking through these decisions and put them down in writing to communicate to others. Rather than simply assuming that your loved ones would know what you want, you have the opportunity to get rid of potential ambiguity and arguments by defining your wishes.

Having a financial plan in place in the event that you pass away or become incapacitated can protect surviving family members from unnecessary financial, legal, and emotional stress.

Not sure where or how to start estate planning? We’ve partnered with Trust & Will—the leading online estate planning platform in the US— to give SoFi Members 10% off their trust, will, or guardianship estate plans.* Get started.
