About Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency. It was invented by an unknown person (or people) using the name Satoshi Nakamoto, and released as open-source software in 2009. Bitcoin transactions are verified by a network of computers around the world, and are recorded on a distributed digital ledger called a blockchain. This allows the currency to function without a central financial institution or government. Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies are divisible into tiny units, allowing you to purchase fractions of coins.
