Yes, a College Degree Is Still ‘Worth It’

Attending college is expensive, especially in the U.S. But when it comes to the question of whether it’s worth it anyway, the verdict is in and the answer is yes.

College graduates earn roughly $24,000 more per year than workers with just a high school diploma, according to recent data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York .

Which Degree Is Most Valuable?

That said, not all degrees are created equal when it comes to your earnings potential.

Computer Science and engineering majors are among the frontrunners, while humanities and arts, and education tend to be on the opposite end of the spectrum, according to the American Education Research Association .

Earnings after graduation aren’t the only metric when it comes to determining a degree’s financial value. It’s also important to consider the cost of tuition.

In other words, the cost of obtaining the degree that can get you this higher earning job needs to be weighed against the future earnings potential.
