Why This Is the End of Return-To-Office Debates

Changing Their Tune
If the pandemic brought on the rise of remote work, last year seemed to signal its fall, as companies across the nation called workers back to their offices.
However, new data suggest that more flexible work arrangements are very much part of the American work landscape now.
The New Norm
Many companies have embraced the hybrid work schedules, allowing workers more flexibility while asking them to spend just some of their time in the office.
Data from the Conference Board found that more than a quarter of surveyed CEOs listed “maintain hybrid work” as a priority. Only six out of 158 business leaders are prioritizing getting people back into the office.
Meanwhile, 65% of CFOs expect to offer hybrid schedules to employees in 2024, according to a separate survey by Deloitte.
Hybrid’s Here To Stay
Between a fifth and a quarter of U.S. workers now work from home for at least part of the week, according to some estimates, up from just 3% pre-pandemic.
For workers, this is good news. More flexibility can foster a more inclusive work environment, particularly for parents or caregivers. Not having to commute into an office on a daily basis also allows workers to move out of more expensive city centers and potentially lower their cost of living, which has risen in the past years due to inflation.
