The Pandemic Has Made Commutes Better and Worse

Americans are spending less time commuting to the office. And it’s not just because they’re working from home.

Even though remote work has made it easier for many to change their commutes, those who still leave the house every morning are also feeling the effect of the work-from-home shift.

Shifting Schedules

Fewer people commuting to the office means less traffic on the roads, allowing those who are driving to get to where they’re going faster. Not to mention, less rigid work schedules have relaxed the rush hour to a certain extent, as workers may choose to commute during off-peak hours.

But for public transportation, fewer riders has led to adjustments too. Perhaps trains run more infrequently, which means it could take longer than before to get to work.
