What To Know About Etsy’s New ‘Gift Mode’

Buying presents can be stressful. Some find it as anxiety-inducing as doing your taxes, according to Etsy (ETSY).
To help alleviate this stress, the online marketplace has launched its new “Gift Mode” feature.
How it Works
E-commerce sites can recommend products based on your shopping history. But Etsy is taking it one step further by helping you shop specifically for other people.
Gift Mode categorizes the person you’re shopping for into a persona, and then recommends products based on their interests. If one catches your eye, Etsy then enables you to create a personalized gift page, including a note, tracking info, and a sneak peek of the gift.
Etsy’s Edge
Etsy is looking to differentiate itself from its competitors in the $900 billion U.S. e-commerce market.
On its most recent earnings call, the company positioned itself as the “opposite of [Chinese e-commerce company] Temu” (PDD) and other heavily discounted online marketplaces, based on the quality of the goods it offers on its site.
