Hosting for Super Bowl Sunday? After years of inflation making holidays and get togethers more expensive, things are finally looking up.

To be sure, food prices are still rising, but inflation has cooled considerably. In December, grocery prices were up 1.3% year-over-year, a massive improvement on the 11.8% jump we saw in 2022.

Meat Matters

Your shopping costs for gameday could also depend largely on your protein of choice, according to Wells Fargo’s Super Bowl Food Spending Report.

For example, fresh chicken wings are averaging $3.26 per pound in January, a 5% decrease year-over-year. And frozen wings, it’s just $3.17 per pound, down 11% over the same time frame. Shrimp has also seen a price reduction, with the average price per pound down 6.4% from a year ago in January, thanks to a global oversupply.

Meanwhile, steak and beef prices are up from last Super Bowl season. Ground beef is the biggest mover in this department, up 12% in January compared to last year. Maybe just keep those nachos vegetarian.
