Safe Space

Space may be vast, but when it comes to what’s floating around our planet, it might pay to be prepared. Startup True Anomaly has raised $100 million to ramp up production of a satellite used to track threats from space.

From debris to enemy satellites and whatever else, True Anomaly’s systems are used by the U.S. government, its allies, and various commercial clients to ensure space remains safe and accessible.

Expanding Universe

Prior to the capital raise, the company had already built a new manufacturing facility near Denver and doubled its staff.

Now, True Anomaly intends to open another location near key customers in Washington, D.C. as it gears up to deploy two autonomous orbital vehicles equipped with advanced sensors. These vehicles, dubbed Jackals, will be deployed by SpaceX’s rideshare mission in March to enhance the U.S.’s capability to monitor and respond to space threats.

Space Invaders

The company’s latest funding round was oversubscribed, highlighting the growing interest in satellite management technology.

Last August, the U.S. government warned of a heightened risk of space espionage and satellite attacks from foreign adversaries, which could result in cyberattacks or ungranted access to key supply chains. As such, the industry was advised to log any anomalies.
