As America is trying to drink less, tech startup Sunnyside aims to help people consume alcohol in moderation.

Sunnyside secured $11.5 million in Series A funding , and is set to launch an AI coach designed to encourage mindful drinking.

Healthier Habits

Sunnyside’s app uses daily tracking, personalized coaching, and community support to promote a balanced approach to alcohol consumption. Its suite of features — soon to include the AI coach Sunny that’s built on ChatGPT — offers members a blend of tech tools and human insight.

Sunny generates recommendations that are then reviewed by human coaches. With a focus on moderation rather than abstinence, the company hopes to provide a non-judgmental space for individuals to explore and improve their relationship with alcohol.

A Sobering Shift

Since its inception, the app has helped over 200,000 individuals reduce their alcohol intake, the company says. Users have decreased their drinking by 32% on average, eliminating calories and costs, according to Sunnyside.

By helping members cut back on drinking, Sunnyside aims to enhance individual health, and even financial well-being. And on a bigger scale, the company hopes to contribute to a cultural shift toward more mindful alcohol consumption habits across America.
