The world of caregiving is about to receive an upgrade. A helpful app, appropriately called Helpful, aims to assist the estimated 53 million caregivers in America by managing the administrative side of a loved one’s care plan.

This solution comes in the wake of a substantial $7.5 million seed financing round facilitated by Redesign Health.

Helpful intends to ease the burden of paperwork, medical records, and insurance intricacies that can often overwhelm caregivers. The app purports to create a seamless experience for families, leaving more room for what matters most: time spent with loved ones.

Fair Share of Free Care

By simplifying administrative tasks and offering a one-stop shop for caregiving needs, Helpful aims to support family caregivers with navigating the often complex world of medical and insurance bureaucracy.

The service Helpful provides is a crucial one, evinced by Wellthy, SupportPay, and a string of other startups developing solutions to the same problem, however, Helpful seeks to distinguish itself from the competition in a few ways.

Primarily, Helpful’s edge lies in its administrative focus and full integration of a wide scope of medical records. Notably, the app is currently free for family members of Original Medicare (parts A & B), in accordance with legal stipulations, covering the cost by charging payors instead.

$600 Billion Impact

The impact of Helpful could be major, especially when considering the strains placed on family caregivers.

As loved ones age, their required care often amplifies, resulting in a slew of appointments, medications, therapy sessions, and everyday reminders. This translates to an estimated $600 billion of unpaid care in the US. And, as life expectancies and population sizes continue to tick up, the strain could only intensify.

The Helpful app offers both practical assistance in managing administrative tasks and emotional relief. By tempering the work and stress of caregiving, Helpful could provide families something far more valuable than money: precious, quality time.
