Healthcare Is Headed Home

The Raise

SiPhox Health, a home healthcare startup, aims to place a high-quality health testing kit in every home across the country.

Led by MIT scientists, the company plans to use what’s known as silicon photonic chip technology to pioneer an at-home, lab-grade health testing device. The device promises to make advanced blood testing more affordable and accessible for patients.

To meet its promise, SiPhox just closed a $17 million Series A round led by Intel Capital (INTC), bringing its total raised to date to $27 million.

Health at Home

With chronic disease a reality for approximately 60% of Americans, the need for reliable, low-cost health testing is increasingly important.

Despite the growing need, accessibility to such healthcare services is marred with challenges, and current testing approaches still experience bottlenecks. The scarcity of convenient health testing services compromises the ability of some patients to effectively manage their conditions.

The provision of home-based lab-grade health testing kits by startups like SiPhox Health could be a game-changer in this landscape. The company aims to have FDA clearance within the next year.

Your Health, Your Terms

SiPhox Health’s technology intends to enable patients and their doctors to gather data points for making real-time health decisions. Its comprehensive test kit can reportedly evaluate 17 biomarkers, covering significant health aspects such as inflammation, cardiovascular health, metabolic fitness, and hormone balance.

If SiPhox Health’s device fulfills its promise of making health diagnostics easy and affordable, it could be a literal lifesaver. Of course, no technology is an effective substitute for a doctor’s advice, and patients should always discuss health concerns with a healthcare provider.
