In-Home Healthcare

DispatchHealth recently raised $330 million in a new funding round led by Optum Ventures (UNH), Echo Health Ventures, Blue Shield of California, and Humana (HUM).

The Denver-based company’s core offering is to provide in-home nursing services for patients who require intense attention and care. DispatchHealth hopes that, by making in-home care readily available, it can ease the burden on the overworked US healthcare system.

Leveraging Tech

The US healthcare system is a notoriously complex web of hospitals, insurance agencies, and pharmaceutical companies. As you may even know from firsthand experience, navigating this environment is rarely an easy task.

DispatchHealth hopes to remedy this. To do so, it’s investing heavily in a tech platform spearheaded by former Uber (UBER) CPO Daniel Graf. The Last Mile Care Technology Platform will track patterns in care, equipment, and resource use, helping DispatchHealth keep track of key metrics and maximize efficiency across the healthcare system.

The at-home nursing company will partner with groups across the industry to integrate its service seamlessly.

Out of the ER

During the pandemic, it became clear how quickly hospitals around the US could become overrun.

Although the worst of the pandemic is over, the US has another healthcare crisis rapidly approaching. The nation’s biggest generation, Baby Boomers, are approaching the age where they could require round-the-clock care, in a country where average life expectancy has increased by over a decade since they were born.

This is fueling investment in the on-demand nursing space, which has received $1.3 billion in total funding to address this future problem. Hopefully, by the time the loved ones in your life require assistance, you’ll be able to schedule a DispatchHealth nurse, regardless of where you live.
