Am I able to buy part of a share rather than a whole?

Yes! You can purchase fractional shares, a.k.a. Stock Bits, for some stocks. We maintain a list of securities available for fractional trading. All of these securities will appear on our “Fractional Collection” page within the Discovery section of the app.

Is my account insured?

Yes, the securities and cash that SoFi Securities holds in your brokerage account are protected by SIPC in the event of a broker dealer failure up to a maximum of $500,000 per client for securities , which includes up to $250,000 per client for cash held in the account. How do I fund the account?

You can fund the account by linking your SoFi Checking and Savings account, checking or savings account, initiating an account transfer (ACAT), rollover, check, or wire. You can set up a recurring deposit to make sure you have money ready for when you want to buy, or make a one-time deposit any time. It will usually take 1-2 business days to clear. The cutoff time for incoming ACH transfers from your bank is 4pm ET, outgoing ACH transfers have a cutoff time of 3:30pm ET on banking days.

When is my deposit available to use?

You can invest up to $5,000 instantly* once you begin a transfer with your linked bank account (you’ll need to meet certain requirements for this). It takes approximately 2 business days to clear your transfer. Instant access up to $5,000 on first-time deposits to eligible new accounts. Subsequent deposits are eligible for instant access up to $5,000, provided all prior deposits have cleared – even if a prior deposit was less than $5,000. Funds not eligible for instant access are available in approximately 2 business days. *Eligibility requirements include 1) Your bank account must be linked, verified and approved through our instant verification process. 2) Your bank account must have a reported balance greater than or equal to your deposit.
