The Next Frontier for Reward Programs: Your Rental Apartment

New Rental Perks

As rents have risen sharply over the past years, renters have thought twice about resigning their leases, leading landlords to offering increasingly atypical perks for signatures.

What started out as a free month of rent on a long-term lease, has turned into full-blown rewards programs.

Earning Points For Rent

Rent reward programs are gaining popularity as a selling point for cost-conscious tenants.

The programs offered resemble common credit card perks, such as cash back on timely rent payments, or boosting credit scores. One such program, Piñata, even enables tenants to earn rewards points that can be used at stores like Amazon (AMZN) or Target (TGT).

But while getting rewarded for paying your rent can be attractive, it’s important to keep these rewards programs in perspective when compared to the overall cost of rent and other lifestyle benefits offered by your landlord, rather than basing the decision solely on rewards.
